Wendy approached Laings Directline with a brief to design a contemporary kitchen and utility room for her family home at Kingseat, Newmachar. Inspired by the modern Nero Oak and Satin Grey kitchen display in our Inverurie showroom the brief was to include some specific requirements, including bespoke built-in spaces for a hidden mini bar, pantry and a breakfast bar with seating.
Wendy approached Laings Directline with a brief to design a contemporary kitchen and utility room for her family home. Inspired by the modern Nero Oak and Satin Grey kitchen display in our Inverurie showroom, the brief was to include some specific requirements, including bespoke built-in spaces for a hidden mini bar, pantry and a breakfast bar with seating.
Wendy’s kitchen was in a smaller room of the house, which was feeling increasingly cramped in their family home. To open up the space, our customer removed the wall which was dividing the kitchen from the new seating area to better accommodate their growing family and create a modern open-plan space.The main challenge in this project was incorporating two hidden bar areas that fit two different needs. One was for the kitchen area to provide a breakfast/coffee area, while the other was a drinks bar for the relaxed seating area of the room. Each bar had to suit different uses and needed to look distinct from one other while maintaining a sense of flow between the two areas of the kitchen. To achieve this, we incorporated fun and quirky lighting in the drinks bar to draw the eye to it and showcase it as a display, while also giving the area a ‘wow’ factor. The breakfast and coffee bar had to look good but also maintain a practical element to ensure it was usable for every day.
Directline designer, Zoe, worked with Wendy throughout the project and was delighted to use Wendy’s ideas as inspiration. Wendy already had a really good idea of what she wanted as a foundation for the design and layout; she knew that the partition wall would be removed to open up the space, and decided she wanted the two bar areas, breakfast bar and a seating area. Wendy also had a clear source of inspiration by basing the look on one of our existing displays, however, we changed the accent colour to better suit the space.
During Zoe and Wendy’s initial chat in the showroom, they discussed the overall plan of the room in addition to Wendy’s wants and needs for the kitchen, before reviewing colour samples. Zoe then got the work creating a design with Wendy’s input, before inviting Wendy back to the showroom for her first design presentation. Wendy was over the moon with what Zoe had put together and had very minimal changes to the design, which allowed us to quickly proceed to installation.
The design accomplishes a modern-luxe look, the colour combination striking, yet warm and homely - transforming the kitchen into an intimate and cosy hub of the home. Zoe used her expertise to deliver quality solutions for the customer, incorporating both the hidden coffee station and mini bar complete with wine cooler in Wendy’s design.
The stacked appliance housings in the utility cleverly utilise the limited space. The result is a striking and well thought-out design, meeting all of the clients needs.
Some of our favourite features in this kitchen design are the Silestone Lusso 20mm solid surface worktop complete with matching upstands, the Quooker Fusion 3-in-1 tap, and the integrated Bosch Series 8 appliances, which compliment the black oak kitchen doors for a polished, seamless finish.
